Richards Bay is a coastal town, located on a 30km² lagoon of the Mhlatuze River in KwaZulu-Natal, situated halfway between Durban and Kosi Bay. Enseleni Nature Reserve
The Enseleni Nature Reserve is situated between the towns of Richards Bay and Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, and is particularly popular amongst serious bird watchers. If you you’re looking to tick some interesting birds like the African Finfoot, purple crested turaco, Pels’ fishing owl and the white-bearded barbet, then this is the place for you. Game species occurring in the Enseleni Nature Reserve include wildebeest, zebra, impala, reedbuck, waterbuck, bushbuck, bushpig, red, blue and grey duiker, hippopotamus, crocodile, large-spotted genet and the shy bush baby.
Alkanstrand Beach
Alkantstrand is located in the little town of Richards Bay; a sub-tropical beach that provides warm water from the Indian Ocean making it perfect swimming temperature all year round. It has a Blue Flag status, which means that it is clean, safe and environmentally friendly. There are lush picnic spots available as well as designated braai areas. If you prefer eating indoors there is a restaurant situated nearby. Toilet facilities on the beach are open to the public.
Richards Bay Caravan Park
Within the coastal dunes of South Africa’s North Coast, Richards Bay Caravan Park offers caravan or camping sites, with a host of amenities including volleyball courts, swimming pools and an 18-hole mini adventure golf course. There are also on-site braai areas, a deep-sea boat and car wash area, and even a separate fish cleaning area. Set in sub-tropical surroundings, the weather is ideal for camping or caravanning here at any time of the year.
